Hummingbirds are the perfect way to add life to your yard. Whether you're a bird lover or just looking for a way to spend your afternoon, hummingbird feeders are a great way to attract and watch hummingbirds.

There are a great variety of hummingbird feeders on the market. So which one is right for your needs? If your yard serves as a home to armies of ants, then you would want one with ant deterring features. If aesthetics are important to you, then you might be more comfortable with a cermaic feeder.

However, no matter what type of feeder you might prefer, you must remember one thing: hummingbird feeders must be kept clean for the health of hummingbirds. It is recommended that you thoroughly clean your feeder every few days. If you reside in a very hot and sunny area where the feeder is in direct contact with sunlight, you may wish to clean it more often because it is more likely that your nectar will go bad faster. If you see black spots on your feeder, this is most likely mold. Please thoroughly scrub and rinse your feeder with detergent in this case. If you regularly clean and replace your nectar, there shouldn't be much problem with mold, but always be sure to use hot water when cleaning your feeder.

Another thing to observe is how much nectar is being consumed between changes. If there is a significant amount of nectar left between changes, lessen the amount of nectar you fill with to make cleaning easier. Your hummingbird feeders can provide you with a great afternoon of birdwatching, so please take care of them and the birds that make that time so enjoyable.
